KEVIN POWERS

Kevin Powers is the author of two works from Little, Brown and Company: the multiple award-winning novel The Yellow Birds (2012) and the poetry collection Letter Composed During a Lull in the Fighting (2014). His work has been published in New Orleans Review, cream city review, Poetry, The New York Quarterly, Witness, The Sun, Diode, and Hayden’s Ferry Review. Powers joined the army at the age of seventeen, and served as a machine gunner in Mosul and Tal Afar, Iraq in 2004 and 2005. He enrolled at Virginia Commonwealth University after his honorable discharge and graduated in 2008 with a BA in English. He earned an MFA from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a Michener Fellow in Poetry.  end
