RICHARD ROTH | Collecting Myself

Gerhard Richter began his Atlas project in 1962. Like so many other painters before him, he collected reproductions from magazines and took photographs to build an archive of source material for his painting. But 3800 images and over three decades later this collection has become an artwork in itself—a homage to the power of raw material and to the preeminence of the photographic image.
